Any epiphyllum cactus lovers??
 

I guess I am having a cactus fever these days. :)

I would love to have a epiphyllum cactus that does not grow too tall or large, yet still make fairly large flowers.

I do not have enough space for hanging a large specimen in my apartment, so I plan to grow smaller than typical sized hybrid that I can grow upright in a pot. I plan to stake them so they do not go all over the place.

If anyone know of a epi hybrid that fits my description, please recommend me some good candidates.

No idea but I bought one of those grafted cacti that had lost the grafted part...sale/cheap. It is some sort of epiphyllum, I think, or hylocereus.
You could check Logees website. They note how large their plants get. I just looked at my cataloge and they have some smaller types listed.
I collected cacti as a child but one of my daughters somehow got past the barriers and into the collection which definitely pained her more than me so I gave them all away. :|

Which part have you lost? the fancy colored top portion?
The base plant is hylocereus. The top portion alone cannot survive.

Nopalxochia and its hybrids stay relatively compact and have fairly large flowers.

There is also an Epiphyllum I see at cactus and succulent shows labeled "guatemalense monstrosa" (or sometimes "monstrose") that, because the stems curl around, stays fairly small and is easy to contain. Flowers aren't huge, but are fair-sized. It's a little touchier for me than the other epiphytic cacti I grow, but not really difficult.

Now, any epis that flower pretty well without much cooling in the winter?
I was told below 60 at night during the winter is required for good flowering in the following season.

The coolest I can do for the winter night is probably around 65 at best.

Can you not just cover them up with the black trash bag? So they need shorter days to bloom?
Don't they need temperature drop as well?

I haven't given it a try yet.
