Looking for a Black Maudiae paph.
Hi everyone. I am looking at expanding my horizons to more paps and am wanting to get some unique ones. The one that I am looking for right now is a black maudiae. I know there isnt a true black but some of them have come on the doorstep. Do you guys know of any black maudiae type orchids for sale on the web?

Something precisely like this one... maybe just a hair less white.

I do not claim rights to this picture... I am simply using it for an example

Macabre hybrids can be quite dark.
Also, Petula's Flame have some really dark ones, I think your picture is just like one of them I have seen. So you are looking for paphs with white dorsal and black petals, not vini. I love vini, but also am on the lookout for nice macabre or something similar. |
No such thing as true black anyway.

That is a true black beauty! I love dark coloured orchids, especially paphiopedilum vinocolor, they're my favorite of all paphs. But I can't still find them for sale here. Can you tell me some of the prices of the paphiopedilums? :)

do you guys think that these would be good?
Paph Macabre Contrasts Ladyslipper Orchid Blooming Size Great Color | eBay Paph Memoria Barbara Duncan A New Hybrid Aiming for Almost Black Color | eBay if you guys think that these would be good plants which would you go for? |
Both would be very easy to grow. In googling, it seemed like Paph. Macabre Contrasts was more likely to have darker colors. Some Paph. Memoria Barbara Duncan turned out less black. These are seed raised hybrids and will have genetic variety.
If you really like black orchids, check this one out: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...l-fcc-aos.html I'd like to get one of these sometime, they get big and blooming sized ones are expensive. Some people don't like them because they have dormancy and then don't grow or bloom for a few months, I love deciduous orchids for some reason. Besides, they grow extra fast when they do grow and if you damage a leaf, it'll get new leaves next year! |
