Hi All, long time lurker, virgin poster....
I have an unidentified orchid that was given to me a while back, I have held off trying to identify it until it flowered... Now that it has flowered I still have been unable to correctly identify it. I suspect it is an Odontoglossum but I have been unable to find any that have this colouring. Is anyone able to help?? Kind regards Gareth |
I suspect that's some kind of Zygopetalum or something closely related. This page has helpful hints on suitable cultivation. Orchid Societies Council of Victoria Inc
I don't know this group well enough to help beyond that; indeed, it may even be a hybrid, which will make more specific identification nigh impossible. Welcome out of lurking obscurity :) |
zygopetalum mackayi or zygopetalum crinitum Im thinking.

Thanks for the super quick response guys, I think that it is a zygopetalum mackayi, I have done a google image search on that and it looks to be spot on...
Thank you for the suggestions, I really appreciate them. I was given a stack of cuttings and pups about 12 months ago and have about 20-30 unidentified orchids, each time one flowers I'm making sure I identify them as best I can so I know what I have. Regards |
Feel free to make liberal use of the board in putting some kind of name to your brood! :)
