Fukiran Society of America website updated

Just received this in email from Peter T. Lin (not to be confused with the Peter Lin of Big Leaf):

Greetings FukiranSOA members,
The website has just been updated. The shows and events tab has been updated with the 2013 SEPOS Show and Fukiran Judging. There is a new Exhibition Tips page under the Shows and Event page. Under Neofinetia Gallery, there is a new page for Growing Areas. Please send in pictures of your growing area!

Happy Fukiran Growing!

Awesome! Thanks, I'm gonna go check this out now!

Haven't bought my first Neo yet, but I will be very soon, once I narrow down the (long, & expensive!) list! Lol

Start with the standard, they don't cost much, easy to find.

Thanks for posting this, Jay. Also, membership in the FukiranSOA is free.

I see they've now posted Carol Beule's photos of the judging and winners at Cal Orchids from earlier this month.

Hint: right-click images and choose open in new window to see larger images.

I do wish they'd post a little more information on the FSoA website, like who won with which plants. Just a minor nit to pick.

Whoa, check out that Koen in the last pic. It's gorgeous...

Is Koen the same as plant spelled Kouen? Seed Engei has Kouen in their online catalog, but not as nice as the Koen shown in the competition (which I'm a little surprised wasn't among the top 5 in the judging).

Confusing note in Seed Engei's catalog:

Quote:

KOUEN 紅炎

KOUEN is very new variety found in last year.
This variety came out from seedling of Amami furan and produce tiger stripe, scarlet pink variegation and ruby roots. Most of ruby roots variety are very expensive.
Variegation will be very similar to Hokage (hokage has ruby roots also), but the difference is the size. KOUEN stays in small and leaves grow tight.
Still dealt in very high price in Japan too.
Please do not confuse with another KOUEN 紅艶 (glossy folieage one). These are totally different plant.

I spoke to Satomi at one of the recent expos and she told me Kouen is supposed to be just Hokage but miniature version. Different from Koen(?). To be quite honest, I'm not even really sure myself. Both look the same to me
