Small discolored spots on white phal
4 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I have recently bought a Phalaenopsis, everything seems to be going well but I have noticed some of the flowers have some discolored spots on them. I am not sure what it could be. I water it once a week and mist it every couple of days with something called Orchid Myst. Any ideas? I am attaching some pictures. |
Some critter is munching on the blossoms.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Any idea of what exactly this is and what I can do to treat it? Should I do anything? Salvo |
Snail or slug, certainly very small

I can't see any snails or slugs. The only visible thing on the back of some of the flowers are tiny grains looking a bit like a grain of soil.
I wonder if it's got something to do with misting with that orchid food too often and if this can burn the flowers. I am going to hold off with misting and bought a humidifier :) |
It could relate to misting. I don't mist phals often and always avoid misting flowers. :dunno:

You won't see snails until it gets dark. During the day they live down inside the pot. A clever way to get rid of the little buggers is to lay a piece of lettuce leaf on the media. Check it before you go to bed and I bet you will find some little black snails. Pick up the lettuce leaf and throw it away. Do that for a few more nights to make sure you have coaxed them all out of the media.
