Goodyera in the North East
Hello everryone
Does anyone grow Goodyera pubescens in their garden? If so how do you care for it. I bought one at a native plant sale and I'm not sure what to do with it. Ive seen them growing in the woods within a few miles of my house so I think the climate would be okay. |

pleuro, I don't grow these in my own yard but a favorite spot that my hubby n I go camping in the summer has a nice big patch of them so I'll tell you what I've observed.
First off, the patch is located in Mass. along the Vermont/ NH border in a heavily wooded area. The temps there will be a bit cooler than your area year round but not by much and the growing season will also be alittle shorter by maybe 2 wks. As said they are in a heavily wooded area so they get drappled sunlight all day and the temps remain 10+ degrees cooler than the surrounding area in more sunlight. They grow in a heavy layer of leaf litter and because of the tree canopy they don't get copious amounts of water but remain evenly moist. The main time I've seen them bloom is late July thru August. I know I've taken pics and will try to find them and post for you. Hope this at least answers some of the questions you may have had! :) Judi |

Thanks sweetjblue. I'll think i have a good spot under one of my big cherries. I picked up some leaf litter and mulm near a patch of these in the woods near my house and potted it in a shallow terra cotta pot.
Hopefully all goes well and i'll get some blooms! |
Good Luck!!
