Vanda dried out (I think)
I have a few Vanda's that have been added to my collection. In the winter months all my orchids were in my shed with about 2000 watts of MH and Sodium lights. One Vanda got stuck in a corner and when they all came out for the spring and summer this guy looks sort of brown and yellow. Can I do anything special to bring him back to health?

Thanks for the bump. I will try sugar water. I don't know what else to do. Cut the dead roots? I have three Vanda's and hate to lose any orchid.

I'm no Vanda expert as I only have one. I don't know how dried out yours is. When I got mine in Feb. it was pretty dessicated with quite dry roots and the leaves were green but very dull and leathery. I was concerned for it. I began by giving it's roots a dunk in a 2 gallon pail of water with some seaweed extract and a bit of fertilizer. I did this every morning for a few weeks and left it soak on average about 20 mins. In the day I misted it now and then too. After it started looking a bit perked up, I put the plant in a large plastic basket pot and supported it so it stands upright. Now it is growing a ton of roots and I only soak it every few days and mist it daily. It has also grown 2 leaves and has a 3rd one started.
Hope that helps. |
Pictures would help. :)

water it daily ... roots need lots of water .. specially if you have them outside. they need to be green..
