Schom. Thomsoniana x LC. Jungle Elf
I picked up this Schomburgkia hybrid at Whimsy Orchids in Homestead over the weekend. It has three flowers on it currently. Apparently one problem with this type of hybrid is that the flowers don't fully open without outside assistance, so you have to gently coax them to open the rest of the way.

FSU,
Looked this cross up on the RHS. site, it is registered as Myrmecocattleya Rustic Gold, was reg. by H&R in 1998. Warren |
Thanks, which is the official name though? I know at one point the entire Schomburgkia category was rolled into Laelia or something to that effect, but then changed back.
|
That is the correct 'official' name as of today, give it a few years and it could change again, who knows.

The old Schom group was split into two groups - some are now Laelia and some are now Mymecophila.
Try lightly spraying the almost open buds with water to wash the sticky off the bloom. Brooke |
Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it as I have not dealt with this type before
