Mother with New Spike?
 

ok, so this plant it's going on 2 yrs old. Last year, put out a new leaf but went to Sleep afterwards. This year as I'm waiting for a spring batch, instead put out yet another leaf and two nodes started to open. Next thing I know, it's two Keikis instead of branches for new flowers. You can see the Keikis and one of the two has developed great roots, the other one is kind'a lazy. Now I discovered what looks like a new spike coming from between two leaves. Here's the kicker: Few months back I was going to repot when I saw she had root rot, but when I saw the Keikis I panic 'til I knew for sure were babies or new branches. I followed advice to repot Mom asap, and now there's that bright green and what seems is a new spike. I am new at this, and I'm learning as I go. Should I let Babies with mom? the way nature intended? or when is time should I re-pot them. I would like to keep them together. :waving I should mention, this plant has never lost a single leaf. The bottom ones are the original ones and even with root rot, they didn't turn yellow and died?! bottom ones are kind'a limpy due to rot but still going. It's weird. :)oh I added a CLOSEUP of the root?/Spike? this thing has me puzzled.
:hello.. new update: THE kEIKIS ARE GROWING on their own very well and Mom is doing excellent with new roots and leaves. Today I found this lil green thing between those leaves. Is that a spike? or more roots as B4 see pix attached. Thanks? :) ps- the last pix is what I'm referring to :)

I might be wrong,but in the first Picture-looks like a new Root to me. Your Plant looks nice.
I would wait a little longer till the Roots on the Babies get a little longer and the pot them up. But thats just what i would do.

So far it looks as if your phal is doing pretty nice! I would agree with Monika that in the first picture, that looks more like a new root to me. You can tell a root from a flower spike with the difference in the shape of the tip- a root will have a "cone" shape vs. a spike having a "mitten" shape. (You can always google the "mitten" shape for phal spikes and get good pictures of what to look for)

I wouldn't take the keikis off yet- let them get some longer roots first.

It has been my reading that low-light can also induce keikis instead of flowering.
Since I don't know your exact phal (or if it's a NOID), I personally think that your leaves are a little dark in the photos- a potential indicator of lower light. What are your light conditions? Do you happen to know a light measurement for the area? [an easy and free tool is to download the beeCam lightmeter app on Android phones].

Final thing- are you growing in bark or some sort of lava rock S/H? If bark, the media looks a little on the dry side to me...

The new growth is a root.

If the mother had root rot it could be she sent out Keikis as a result of that stress. I also agree that it could be a response to not enough light, or a combination of both. When I have a plant that refuses to bloom I usually bump up the light intensity and that usually takes care of the problem.

I can't tell off the bat if the first picture is root. It's too small to tell. And from where it is coming out off, spikes usually come out of that. So unless there is update, I am going to make an assumption that it is a spike.

In terms of the keikis, did you induce the growth of keiki's with a paste by any chance? Great job, two new additions to your collection!

Glossy, roundish tip - root. Especially good news if this plant previously had root rot!

Its a root for sure.

No I didn't use paste for Keikis. It happened by itself. And I don't know if is a Spike or Root, unless root come out of between leaves?? I will update as it continues to grow.

is Bark and I give it a good soak once a week for 2-4 mnts.

Light conditions.. We just moved from Fla, " the sunshine State " to Chicago. I know I know don't ask, but She gets plenty of glare, she always did. Now is on a south room until summer starts to heat up then I'll move her east. ( Chgo can get dark and very cold ) so I was advice to keep her in South window 'til then. But if you notice, the leaves immediat on the crown are very very bright green. Looks as if she's plugged into an outlet. :) that's how I knew she was waking up and getting ready to bring ( Flowers/ Keikis / Spike ) any of those was ok with me.

She has 2 more huge roots from the bottom but pointing down. That on on the pic, is the only one pointing up and between the leaves. That's why I had to ask.
