This orchid really worries my because even that has new roots looks unhealthy. I water my orchids once a week. The leaves are wrinkle, turning yellow and small brown spots. Any thoughts?

How big's the pot? Can you please post a pic of the plant in it's pot?

What do the roots look like under all the potting media?

Do you know what kind of Dendrobium it is (assuming it is a Dendrobium)?

Thanks for your reply! I don't know what kind of Dendrobium is. Roots under the media looks brown; the only ones green are the new ones.

I have it on a 6' clay pot (orchid pot with holes)

1. Pot's too big.

2. The roots in the potting media are not good if they're brown. They should look like the ones on the top of the media.

3. I suggest a significantly smaller clear plastic pot.

See if this helps.

Thanks Philip for your advice. I'll do that ASAP. How about water? once a week is fine?

Thanks!

When is the last time this plant was repotted? If the mix is old and decomposed, even once a week is too much. Once it's in fresh mix, once a week may be good or even insufficient. Depends on your growing conditions.

Looks like root rot judging by the mushy, brown look of the roots in the picture. Get a smaller pot, and use plain bark with a little sphagnum moss mixed in. Less than half/half bark/moss. That much room means a longer wait until the medium dries, which you need to let it do between waterings. That may take a week, it may take more. Make sure you check the medium itself to make sure it's a good time to water. Something I noticed that is causing my room mate's phal to have root rot is that her bark medium is so decayed, it's almost like dirt. I'm going to replant it in fresh bark once I get her permission to do so come time for it's next watering. Anywho, best of luck!
