Lowe's Clearing Out Orchids

Just noticed this weekend that Lowe's is cleaning out their older orchids that have finished blooming. While I mostly found NoID Phals, this is kind of a 'your mileage may vary' thing, so you might find something better in there.

One of my more recent orchids came from there from the markdown table. It's too bad the closest Lowes to me is a 50 minute drive... :-( if I can't contain myself I might just actually suck it up and go there...lol...

Hmm ... someday I need to check-out Lowes. There's a couple not horribly far from me, but I'm never out that way, and there are closer options for things I need.

Conveniently enough, I need to go to Lowe's to get some lumber.....just may swing by the greenhouse section as well....

Boyfriend dreads taking me to lowes because i always come out with new plants. Last time i went i saw an orchid with gorgeous flowers and i was tempted and i also saw the coolest plant ever that somehow i forced myself to resist i think it was Purple Velvet Plant. Their selection is huge with orchids, of course it's all phals.. hmm wish they had different varieties.

My local lowes stores usually carry Dendrobiums. At Christmas they also got in some oncidiums & after Christmas I picked one up on clearance for $3. It might even be a sharry baby or related.

I'm wondering if the oncidiums will show up again around Mother's Day. It's a good time to keep an eye out for orchids they don't usually carry. I try to go when they first arrive & click a pic with my phone of all the ones I like. Then if I find one on clearance later I can usually tell if it's one that I liked even if all the blooms are gone by comparing the pic to the plant.

But be careful! The above method is part of what has taken me from zero to 40 orchids in 8 months! Time to slow down on clearance orchids :)

Earlier in the year at my Lowe's they had some oncidiums, dendrobiums, and even a couple of paphs which I'm disappointed I didn't get at the time.

Hmmm, I live about 5 minutes from a Lowe's. Maybe I'll have to take a drive. (Do you know whether they're doing it as a pre-mothers day shipment type deal? I would have thought they'd wait until after)

Paphs at Lowes? I'm 60 minutes or more away from Lowes. We have to go there in a week or two. Maybe some orchids will follow me home.

birdybrain, same happened with me. Now I limit myself to buying only tagged orchids and mostly species.

Thanks! I now have a new orchid ;)
