Is this a spike?
2 Attachment(s)
I purchased this phrag because in the description it said the plant was in spike. When I opened it yesterday, it doesn't look like a spike to me. I am, however, new to phrags so I could very well be wrong. What do you guys think, is this a spike?
|
It looks like it very well could be. Feel the growth down below that new leaf. If you can feel something round and firm in there then that is your first bud forming. What Phrag is it?
|
I felt it and it seemed to be flat,.Maybe it's too early to tell. It is a kovachii x Eric young.
|
Looking at it closer it looks like there is another "leaf" coming up that is still kind of hidden by the new "leaf". If that is the case it is indeed a spike. I'm not familiar with kovachii and it's hybrids so I don't know if it blooms differently than other Phrags. I do think it is a spike though.

It is indeed in low spike which means that the spike is just starting to form. That second leaf inside the first one is the spike which will grow a fuzzy stem. As it gets taller the buds will start to from in about a month or so. Kovachii is a beautiful Phrag. I can't wait to see the blooms

Please, update every now and then. I love seeing the evolution of spikes (also if they're not mine).

Thanks guys, I will update this thread with pictures as it progresses :)

im new to phrags but my phrag just made a spike and as it arose it was flat and didnt feel like there was anything in it. it looks just like mine did at first that sounds like its gonna be a gorgeous cross with big flowers from the Kovachii!
