Phalaenopsis modesta
Phalaenopsis modesta blooming on a very small plant. Thick substance for a small flower ~2.5cm NS. I would imagine that some talented hybridizer could really do something with this species...

How about Phal. High Society 'Highjack' HCC/AOS which is modesta x javanica.

That is very nice brooke!

Both plants are just gorgeous! Congratulations! Does anybody grow phal. javanica the species? I am thinking of getting either a modesta or a javanica at the Calgary show, but have to settle for the smallest one, and the one that grows best with equestris, stuartiana and bastiani.

I think Cody grows javanica. If memory serves me correctly it is a relatively compact grower.

Thanks Pete -
Ezil I grow both of them and if I had to eliminate one I would eliminate the javanica. The blooms are not as colorful and are cupped as compared to modesta. Foliage on both is about the same and find both easy to grow. The one upside to the javanica is once it is old enough it blooms for months. The modesta gives a big bang and then done for another year. One of the other features of the modesta is the blooms emerge from the foliage even as a young plant. The javanica spikes take years to get them long enough to see without peeking under the skirts. Sorry Pete, don't mean to highjack your thread. Brooke |
Thanks Brooke, I e- mailed Ten Shin to see if they have the javanica, hopefully there'll be place for a modesta later on. Those are available in Canada, whereas javanica is harder to come by.
