Paph. haynaldianum 'KOS' x Pinocchio 'HALO'

Picked up this Paph (my first) at the Central Florida Orchid Show this morning. It has two open flowers, plus a big bud that will be opening shortly. The colors and size are impressive for a Paph. I decided to get this one instead of a few others at the show which were just as tempting. Honestly this was the best deal I found. Also picked up a BLC that has 9 buds from two different spikes on it which I will take pictures of as soon as they open.

Very nice find! I am wanting a lowii or haynaldianum cross but don't have it yet!

They had a bunch at this show for very good prices.

Beautiful! I like the shape of the flowers.

That's a very impressive flower, especially for an orchid that's half Paph. Pinocchio.

The flowers are very large, it may be hard to see in the pictures.

Anyone have recommendations for how to fertilize this plant? I am new to Paphs and I'm not sure what the best fertilizer ratio is.

Nice blooms! Try fertilizing w/ 1/8 to 1/4 tsp. per gallon every other watering.

I'm trying to determine which type of fertilizer, which I've seen conflicting information on (ie. some have said 30-10-10, others have said balanced 20-20-20 or something similar).

I'd say 30-10-10, urea-free if possible. Rick Lockwood wrote an article in the March "Orchids" magazine on "What do Orchids Eat?" and in it he explains that most orchids need more urea-free nitrogen (N), and a lot less potassium (P) and phosphorous (K). Orchids also need more calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) than you think, even more than they need P & K. I have started using K-lite, a fertilizer with the NPK of about 12-1-1-10Ca-3Mg. You can read the article online here: http://www.firstrays.com/PDF/What_Do_Orchids_Eat.pdf You can ask Ray for more details, he sells the fertilizer here: https://www.firstrays.com/cgi/cart/c...=219&keywords=

If you don't want to bother then stick with 30-10-10.

I believe I have some 30-10-10 urea free fert. that I can use for it. I'll probably give that a shot and see how well that works.
