New Member and Orchids in 3D

Hello everyone!

I have been using Orchid Board as my go-to orchid resource for quite a while and thought that it might be time to join.

I grow (/kill) mostly Paphs and Phals, and last September I switched most of them into S/H. They all really seemed to like it, and now a few of them are starting to bloom, so I thought maybe I'd share.

...and then, I was fooling around at work last week and figured out how to make stereoscopic images that you can see in 3D, and I thought, "What could be better than 3D photos of orchids!?"

So, now that I finally have something to share with you guys, here's the address for my small collection 3-D orchid photos:

flickr.com/photos/djplawrence

The flowers that have bloomed for me so far are:
Paphiopedilum sukhakulii ('Sheila' x 'Los Osos' AM/AOS)
Phalaenopsis Shu-Long Sun Beauty (A Lowe's hardware rescue)
Phalaenopsis Grosbeak 'Sweet Fragrance'

I don't know how many people know how to see stereoscopic images, so I wrote some brief instructions in the details of the photo set. You could also google something about stereoscopic images and find little tutorials all over the web. If it seems really difficult, keep trying! It's really cool, and once you get it to work a couple of times, it becomes really easy - kind of like riding a bike.

I have a few more plants in spike and in bud that I'm eagerly awaiting to bloom, so hopefully I'll have some more pictures to show sometime in the near future.

Welcome to Orchid Board :welcome:

I've not managed to see the pictures in 3D yet but keep trying. The look good anyway :)

:welcomeflowers:

I will check out your 3D images later when I am on the computer. Just wanted to welcome you :)

Got it! Very cool! But I probably don't want to do too much of that as I've been having migraines :p

Welcome to the Board! I looked at your Flicker photos, but could not find instructions for looking at the 3D images - I just saw the two photos - please explain how to view these as I really would like to see them. Nice collection!
Again, welcome!
Steve

Thanks, everyone. :waving It's a little bit difficult to explain how to see the pictures in 3D, but here are the instructions I put on the Flickr page:

-------------------------
To see these pictures in 3D, start to cross your eyes very slightly until the two images become three distinct, fuzzy images. (If you can count 4 distinct pictures, you're crossing your eyes too much)

Now, while maintaining those three images, try to relax and bring that middle image into focus. (This is the hardest part to learn.) When you get it right, your eyes will sort of "lock on" to the middle image and you'll see it in crystal clear 3-D.

Try not to sit too close to the screen. The closer you are to the picture, the more you have to strain to see it.

If you can't get it, at first, keep trying! It's hard to learn, but once you get it, it's very easy!
