Cattleya Hybrid?
2 Attachment(s)
One of our older friends gave me a couple of these things and both have budded and this one opened a bloom yesterday and one this morning.
Sure looks like Cattleya blossoms to me, even though they are only about the size of a golf ball. The leaves are colored differently than anything I've seen (not that I have really seen a lot being a newbie) there is different shades of almost pastel colors - green, tan, and red (throw in some purple) on the different leaves. They have been these colors since I got them back in May. The lips have not turned down all the way yet, if they are even supposed too. The whole thing might be sick, sunburned or both but it looks okay to me health wise and sure it pretty. Anybody have an idea what this thing is? Appreciate any help. Cecil |
That sure looks like Jackfowlieara [Jkf.] (syn. Iwanagara) Appleblossom and they do bloom around now. They are a Cattleya made up of Caulaelia (syn. Dialaelia ) Snowflake X Rhyncattleanthe ] (syn. Brassolaeliocattleya or Blc.) Orange Nuggett.
Lots of name changes for all of these and if it isn't labelled you can't say it's that for sure but they have quite a distinct look. Mine is in low spike at the moment and I just saw a nice on on display at our local Gardenscape show this weekend in our orchid society's display. |
Looks like Appleblossom to me too.

Agreed, Appleblossom. You can be proud of the result and exspect even more flowers as the plant grows stronger in future.

Thanks all. The third blossom opened and it's lip was down like it was supposed to be. Nice that it is recognizable and not some weird mutant that I don’t even know the species of. Another nice NOID!
Thanks again Cecil |
