what potting mix should I use?
I have my first neostylis and I dont know what medium I should use, I have CHC, sponge rock, charcoal, lava rock and new zealand sphagnum moss, will any of these work? I only have plastic pots so I was planning on putting the plant in that.
Thanks for any help :) |
There is good guidance on potting mix on the repotme.com website. of course it is geared toward their mixes, but you can read the ingredients of their mixes and make your own.

Oh I forgot the pics I took of the plant, I dont know if they will help but there is a picture of the pot I thought would fit the best, a pic of the plant, then a pic of the plant in the pot.

That list is fine for selecting their mixes, but it does nothing to help you understand why you'd want one versus the other.

I had a couple Neostylis in clay pots with sphag. Especially with sphag, I like to put some styro in the center at or near the base of the plant. They did great that way (they were initially in quite poor shape). I just repotted them into chc so I wouldn't need to repot them as often.
I also have one in medium fir bark mix in a plastic pot, also with styro in the center, which is also doing well. |
Neos are easy. Mine grow in net pots and lava rock.
