I've had this plant for three years now and she never disappoints. I have abused this plant to no end. First I grew it in a vase but alas it did not work. Then I grew it in sh. It thrived!!! But then it hailed one day and I nearly lost it. First the plant was torn from its pot and then I didn't find it for two days. Then I tried growing it in sh again but it didn't take. Then it grew barefoot and did pretty well but needed watered every single day.

Now it's growing on a rather large mound of moss like a neofinetia. The center of the mound is a terra pot, there's actually very little mosses used here. Pardon the look...it's not grown into this yet and I used fishing line to secure it.

Lovely! I just got a couple of similiar ones and so far have found them very hardy, don't know why I didn't do it sooner actually!

It won't know what to do with itself not being neglected ;)

So much for orchids being delicate ;) And I think it looks rather cool as it is.

Yeah these plants capitalize on the idea of hybrid vigor, for sure. I have abused my plant and it still blooms three sometimes four times a year.

No kidding... Having given this plant multiple chances to die on me, it chose not to. Not sure how I like this method of growing yet. I mean, this is a really big ball of moss! Ok, moss covered pot... But still!

I'm thinning my orchid collection right now and this one that im keeping... I mean come on, it blooms several times a year and would grow on a sidewalk... So yeah I'm keeping it.

How do you go keeping the sphag moist? I've stopped using it on mounts because it always goes crunchy and horrible when other moss I use is still soft and just damp enough.

What other moss do you use?

I drench the thing.... I live above 6500' and our environment is crazy dry. However, I grow my orchids in an enclosure with an ultrasonic humidifier.... I water it every few days set up like this... It never gets crunchy.

I use what we call bush moss. It's a matting type moss that is very common in the bush around here. I have trays of it that sit under the trampoline and grow so I always have it when I need it :) I can buy live sphag from a guy down south and I am seriously considering getting some and seeing if I can do better with that.

That would be so cool... Yah I don't grow my own moss, but that would be so nice. Can I interest you in a cactus? Lol
