Old member, new hello.
Hello everyone. My name's Tim, and I've been growing orchids for over 15 years - not including a recent 3 or so year hiatus. I joined this forum back in 2009, which just about coincides with the start of my hiatus.
Over the years, I've grown everything from Catts, Phals, Oncidiums - all the standard fare. I've always grown indoors, under artificial light - usually some type of fluorescent bulb. I've been able to grow and re-bloom nearly everything except the more high light demanding plants, and species that require a seasonal change in photoperiod or temperature. My current re-entrance to the orchid world came when I attended two, local orchid shows. From those shows - and a subsequent visit to a local grower - I now have a large handful of plants growing under T5 high output fluorescents, and in my southwest facing window, supplemented by a bank of three CFL bulbs. My plants are either growing in my own bark mix, or in semi-hydroponics. That about does it for me. I just thought I'd say "hello," and greet the many new faces I've seen on here. Happy growing! -Tim PS - I'm 30, in case anyone was wondering. I started growing orchids when I was 11. Sent from my A200 using Tapatalk HD |
Hi Tim, Welcome back
|
Hey Tim - welcome back -:waving
I also have grown orchids since I was young - my first orchid was a purple Cattleya given to me by my mother for my 15th birthday - as I am 53 I understand what it is like to have orchids around almost all the time. I also am a window - florescent grower with a large variety of breeds again - Hope you have the best luck with your new collection and enjoy your time back on "the board"! Steve |
Welcome back.
Any pics of your setup? |
Hey Tim I remember you. Welcome back!

Hello,
I am jennifer.f new here. How are you all ? |
Welcome back to Orchid Board Tim, I remember you but I was still fairly new back then :welcome:

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I don't have any pics of my current setup, but I'll take some once the lights turn on. I'm glad to see some familiar names on here.
-Tim Sent from my A200 using Tapatalk HD ---------- Post added at 09:10 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:31 AM ---------- Here are pics of my two growing areas, as requested. http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/...ps93afa061.jpg This is the right half of my L-shaped desk. The door (which is blocked by the desk) leads out to our lanai and pool, and is a southwestern exposure. http://i1162.photobucket.com/albums/...psa0eca1a5.jpg This is my dresser. Having the plants on such a high surface makes it great for me - being 6 foot tall - since I can just walk right up to the flowers and smell them. Happy growing! -Tim |
Welcome back!
