My Phal stuartiana is it going to make it?
 

well heres what I been watchin since last year. Good lord these things will test you.Tell me this is going to be one awesome orchid in bloom?:waving. I will have to wait to show you the blooms of course.

Do you think they will give me a show before april 20? Thats when the HOS has their show this year.

The plants in a mix of orchiata bark and dyna- rok. Those 2 items have become the staple of my media Specifically those products which also seem to be brand names. It soaks up water constantly. Stays outside most of the time on a shaded porch as mentioned maybe with some late afternoon sun. The plants leaves have the reddish tint to it so its getting plenty of light. Use the weekly weakly method of fertilizing with peters excel calmag. I do not use superthrive anymore. Ask me why sometime. Im really happy with the plant as its gone above and way beyond my expectations of myself with phals. I am getting good at the phals though after a few years and a pile of compost :rofl:

the pot is a 6 inch plastic pot and chock full of roots so its not over potted thank you.

tha plant has a secret too.. Theres 2 more spikes starting under the leaves you cant see ;)

Happy looking plant!! :) Are you sure that it's Phal staurtiana? That species has mottled leaves, and I don't see that on yours. Unless you have var nobilis, which I think may not have the mottling.

As for the blooming, I think it looks like you'll have open blooms by mid april, but I'm not so certain that you'll have the full spike in bloom by then.

You could be right Camille and probably are. He had both kinds and I didnt pay much attention to which one I just bought the biggest one that I saw stuartiana on it. Ill check the tag when I get home but Im sure it just says stuartiana. Could be mislabeled from his greenhouse though regardless of the tag.
Indeed after closer inspection of the var. you mentioned the nobilis has the reddish leaves and that describes this plant. We will know for sure when they open as the flower is very different also.

his nobiles flowers were more on the yellowish side than green and not as sharp looking as the standard. I hope they arent oogly :blushing:

It just adds extra suspense until it blooms! I'm even more impatient when I don't know what the flowers look like. :)

It looks like a very healthy orchid. My guess would be that you will have flowers by April 20. I only have one p. stuartiana and it has gray and green mottled leaves like Camille said. I'm not familiar with the var. nobilis. In any case I'm sure your orchid will be very nice. If there's one thing we learn from orchids, it's patience.

heh yay now I'm more suspenseful...I think it really looks like the nobilis but we shall see, soon, very soon, I hope. She Spent some quality time outside today when it bumped over 50. Gorgeous bright cool day for watchin orchids grow, bec I had to bring them ALL in anyway when it got late ..going to get too cold tonite for anything I want alive in the morning..37 is just pushin most of them cept the lone cym and its still all alone...

There is no such thing as an oogly orchid! They are all beautiful! :lol: Looks very promising, I think it will flower in time to show off.
