Searching for The Vanilla -- San Francisco
Hey all, I'm a food stylist traveling to San Francisco to work on a photoshoot, and one of our shots prominently displays a vanilla orchid. I've never purchased one before, and I'm not from the area. The shoot is about two weeks away, and I was wondering if anyone out there might have an inkling of where one might purchase a vanilla orchid in bloom or just about to bloom? Hybrids that resemble it could work well too. Any advice on nurseries or shops or any other resources would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

good luck! |
Vanilla blossoms are sort of like hibiscus and only stay open one day. Maybe you can call one of the California greenhouses and ask for help. It might be easier to use a computer program to add the flowers (after getting permission to use the photos). Good luck!

Flowers open around 6am and die at about midday…
Plus in the north hemisphere those that will flower will do around April/June. Leafmite is right, you're luckier with photoshop™®. Mine shows no signs for now (and I'm near Paris, France) and 2 from other maniacs are preparing something in France, but the flowers are still weeks away. |
Re: Searching for The Vanilla
Thanks everyone, it's such a narrow window for blooms. But it was worth a try! We'll see what we get at the show! Again, many thanks.
