What is the difference between an odontocidium vs. ondontoglossum?

I believe I have an ondontoglossum :hmmand It's flowered a few times, but the flowers aren't fragrant, and although they are large, they don't last more than 2 weeks or so. I'd post a pic but my computers screwed up and won't 'find' the file. Anyway, this orchid was a 'rescue' from my manager, and since I've had it, it put out one spike and flowered within 6 mths of being with me. Then about 6mths later it put out two spikes and flowered. I grow all my orchids in S/H, and well, I'm just curious as to what I actually have here. It does not get full sun. Neither is it on a heat mat, as my other orchids have taken that position. This is in my west facing window. The flowers are about 3" diameter.?

An Odontocidium is a cross between two genera, Oncidium and Odontoglossum, while Odontoglossum is a genus of its own. It is far more likely that you have the former. Odontoglossums, either species or hybrids, are not readily available, while there are many Odontocidium crosses on the market. The Odontocidiums will generally be more tolerant, too, of warmer temperatures while many if not most Odontoglossums will need cool temperatures.

It sounds like you have a nice Odontocidium. There are really a lot of nice ones out there that can flower more than once a year.
We have a new orchid place here, and I'm thinking I may get one next.
