Mystery Catasetum
1 Attachment(s)
Well, this one I bought as Clowesetum Grace Dunn 'Chadd's Ford' 3 years ago, as a smaller seedling.
First the flower stalk aborted growth when I moved it out of the greenhouse: thus only 2 flowers. When the flower buds were fairly large and started to get rather dark, It was sure it couldn't be Grace Dunn. Then I thought maybe something like Clowesetum Pierre Couret, but it actually is something else entirely. Obviously quite a bit of pileatum in the parentage, Lovely colour. Any ideas? I would really apreciate if somebody knows, or can point me in the right direction. I have quite a few Catasetums about to flower and was going to try a cross. For example this one might work really well with Grapefruit Pink. |
Beautiful! I hope someone can help with I.D.

Maybe something like Monnierara Jumbo Delight or something like Mormodes sinuata X Ctsm. Penang or expansum or pileatum or friends ... I will post another picture when the flowers opened a bit more.

sorry can't help but it is sure a nice flower. that is the problem with hybrids, once the tag is lost, almost impossible to identify it, especially complex hybrids
|
Ya, this hybrid will most likely always be a NOID. My first thought is that it looks a lot like an Fdk.
|
I second. My first idea was Clowesetum or Fredclarkeara. As for doing a cross: I am not sur if you get fertile pollen or a stigmatic cleft on these flowers. I would appreciate to hear about the result.
