NOID Phalaenopsis orchid - Identification help request
 

Hi All,
I just exchanged my paph for a miniature sized phal orchid at my local store because I found mold on the roots of the paph.

Anyway, I wanted to know what my new NOID orchid's name is or what it might be. I attached a photo in this post and I hope that will help identify it.

The root system was fabulous. It was all plump and green. It is in sphagnum moss, but it looks like none of the roots were damaged/rotted. :)

Any comment about the new acquisition is greatful.

I am glad that a senior member says the orchid 'looks great'. :D Even though i am very thorough when picking orchids, it is nice to hear that someone agrees.

Also, my phal is in sphagnum moss. It doesn't look like it is drenching wet, but moist. I am hesitant in repotting now due to the beautiful flowers. Looking at the picture, do you think it will be an ok medium for now? I don't see any yellowing or brown roots.

Looks ok, but its hard to tell how tight the sphagnum is from the picture. If it looks really tight, I would repot as soon as you feel comfortable doing it. You want to make sure it's not staying soaking wet all the time. Some drying is good.
As far as the name, it's usually nearly impossible to name the hybrids they sell at Home Depots, garden centers and supermarkets unless they come well labeled.
I've even been to nurseries that sell NOID Phals at very high prices. But without a proper name you are better off paying $12 for the same thing at the supermarket. Enjoy it, it's a real beauty anyway.

Thank you Tindomul. I got mine at Trader Joes for $7.99. Can't beat the price with the quality they sometime have.

I may use sterilized tweezers or chopsticks to take out some of the sphagnum moss tomorrow morning. As in the picture, I decided to take it out of the plastic cup it came in. Just the inside plastic cup remains on the plant.

At my Trader Joe's they get in a pretty constant varied selection of orchids at incredible prices, and most of them come in good health.
That is a very pretty flower.

Yep it's NoID. There are way too many white Phals to be able to know the name without a tag. Just to let you know, Paph roots can be fuzzy and it's normal. I've seen others on here think their Paph roots were moldy but actually were not. I don't know, the plant you had could of been moldy but it could of just been its fuzzy roots too. I wasn't sure if you already knew that about Paphs. Good luck and beautiful Phal!

I'm just jealous you can get phals at chain stores for 8 bucks let alone paphs. Over here I struggle to find paphs and even a small not yet flowering one would probably cost me upwards of $40.

I decided to loosen up the sphagnum moss a bit in the center and included a bark mix to the current plastic pot it came in.

I think it was an OK decision because the inner portion of the phal roots were already becoming a bit yellow. I just hope that the phal is not in shock.

The phal is in a tight/snug plastic pot with drainage, so it should be OK, No?

I have another phal and have more yellowing roots (like 3 or 4 out of like 8). The phal is in full bloom now. If the roots are not black, is it acceptable?
