New Bulbo setup

Here is my new bulbo set up, and little frostii in bloom with one more flower to open. If you look hard, you will see a bud on my echinolabium. It is way to the right, out of the white tray,in a small tray draining into the bucket below. The bud is tall but tiny. I just bought it about a month ago and didn't expect it to bloom so soon. I am curious about what it will smell like.

I finally figured out a way to hang my mounted bulbos. There are a couple behind the wood basket which don't show on the pic. I moved my phrags out of that tray and put my bulbos in it. I found 48" X 22" shelving at Lowes and hung it behind the trays.

It was tricky getting that rack hung up there. Can you picture a 75 year old lady on her knees, leaning over the cart, trying to hang that monster on the back side of the cart? I was glad there was no one here to see that sight. It took several tries to hang it....but I did it. I'm very happy with the results.

One question. When I water, a bit of the water from the mounted plants could possibly drip on the plants below. I did leave space in the back of the tray for that purpose, but it may still drip a bit. Is that going to cause a problem for the plants below?

It needs a little tweaking yet, like putting the cords where they don't show. I was too tired by the time I was finished to care if they showed. Tomorrow is another day.

Oh BTW. I have them in my home in a small spare bedroom.

Frostii

Way cool. I just bought one about a month ago. Will be a while before it blooms. Thanks so much for sharing!

It looks great!

First, the only reason you'd need to be concerned with a little dripping is if the plant above has any virus or other problems...then those problems drip down to what's below them.

Second, I just wanted to tell you how bad I feel that you aren't able to get as much info on Bulbs as you'd like. I wish I could help more but I only have two and haven't had either one bloom yet! :( Seems to me that Bulbs are more of a "specialized" collection here.

That looks fantastic. What a glorious collection you have. I have quite a few bulbo and a few of them have blessed me with blooming in the last week, so it's a happy time on my bulbo rack...
The way mine are setup, they do drip on each other...so far, I haven't had a problem with it.

I have no idea how long it takes before a small plant blooms. As you can see, my plant is quite small but still set bud. I only started growing bulbos about 3 months ago so I really can't give out any help.

I find those little guys so interesting. How such a small plant will grow on a piece of wood or cork, and live, and even bloom, even tho all it's roots are hanging out, fascinates me. The biggest problem I have with them is remembering to water them so often. My other orchids get watered about every 3-6 days. I need to change my thinking pattern to remember to water these every morning. I had planned to mount this one when it is finished blooming. Now I think it is doing so well in a pot that I am afraid to disturb it. There are several others, in pots in that tray, waiting to be placed on cork.......if I get the courage to do it. The large ones will stay in pots.

I have 2 on Swampsticks. Time will tell if my plants will like it there. I did buy several pieces of cork intending to use it so I can hang them instead of taking room in my trays. I love all the wierd looking pieces of cork or branches. The effect of all the different shapes is more interesting.

I have a friend from my church who is very 'Dutchey', quite new from Holland, so I thought she would enjoy these tiny little 'wooden shoes' My frostii went to church Sunday morning. I really don't think frostii got much out of the church service, he was confined in a box, but he got a lot of attention.

I wish you good luck with yours. I'm sure you will enjoy seeing it bloom, whenever it decides to bloom. I have no idea if they bloom only once a year or if the other litte bulbs will flower at will.

Very nice setup. I agree with Sue on the water dripping issues. Please post when the echinolabium blooms. I can't wait to see it!

I see no problem with drippage either as long as you are certain the topmost guys are disease free. The second you see ANY signs of insects or disease, though, move them so they don't drip. I've spread many things this way and fought the bugs, etc. as a result. Think you are in same situation I am, however, that's the best you can do. Think you are fine.
