When to repot Blc.hybrid
Hello, I have a large pink flowering cattleya alliance plant with 1 ft high leading pseudo bulbs. The flower has been gone for about 2 months and the sheath is completely dried up. There are 2 new growths about 1 and a quarter inches long. It is potted in a sphagnum mix which I know retains too much moisture. I don't water it as much as my other plants planted in bark because of this reason. I am wondering if it is worth the stress to the plant to change the media to bark because the plant will soon be going into a very high humidity environment- my new 8 x 8 grow tent:D!

Or should I mount it? Would that increase its vigour?

I love mounted orchids but large cattleyas aren't good candidates because they have large flowers that often need to be staked. You can't stake a flower spike on a mount. You can repot cattleyas almost anytime but the best time is when new roots are just beginning to grow. That's usually in the spring but I think you're right about getting it out of that sphagnum. Good luck.

Ok, thanks
