Lime Stars in time for Christmas
 

I purchased this plant in November already in bud, so I can only take partial credit for its flowers. The plant was tagged with its cross, Epc. Lime Sherbert x B. Little Stars, and through Orchid Wiz, I learned that cross' name is Vnra. Walnut Valley Lime Stars (Sandler). You can certainly see the influence of B. Little Stars. It is more temperature tolerant than B. Little Stars which is helpful to me since my GH is on the cooler side in the Winter (nighttime temps 55F - 60F).

I have B. Grand Stars and it does need it a bit warmer, so I have had some difficulties with buds blasting on it. It lives in a table top greenhouse on a seedling mat.

The lip color is more green than it looks in the picture and I really like its "freckles". It's first bloom opened on 22 December and there is another spike still to open. I haven't noticed any fragrance yet, alas.

Nice! I've been disappointed this year. I normally have a few orchids blooming for Christmas but this year everything is behind for some reason.

I'm in the same position as Vanda Lover, not much flowering just now, it's the quietest on the flower front it's been in a few years. Spikes coming on though :)

Yes, spikes are coming but not until later. I do have a doritinopsis that is just opening this morning, so that makes me fee better. It's been years since this has happened to me.

I've got several Onc/Odm hybrids with spikes and several in others in bloom too. I'm afraid my poor blooming months are in the heat of summer. It's always soooo nice to look at into my attached GH to see the flowers. I position those in bloom so that they can be viewed while washing the dishes in the kitchen. Really helps with the winter blues.

It does help with the winter blues. I aim for winter blooming orchids or ones that bloom a few times a year. I have a fragrant LC. that is normally blooming for Christmas but for some reason it's late this year.

My orchids in bud all missed the Christmas holiday. All I had blooming was a little oncidium that has been blooming since early Nov. We had a couple of weeks where it was very cloudy/dark and then we have been having sun. My jasmines think it is spring and are budding up and my cyncnodes are breaking dormacy. Opps.

Once my reed stemmed epi bloom, they can go for a year or more. They are all in spike now, so in the spring I'll have flaming colour. Several phals, a rychocentum, epicat, lc, encyclia cochleata, ctna, dens, multi onc, etc. I can certainly look forward to late winter and spring.
It's just now that is pretty dull. Even my cyms are late.

I know the feeling. This is the time of year when I always want to buy something in bloom but it is always too cold to ship anyway. I am hoping that some of my seedling cattleyas will fill in these spaces eventually. I also have the little soph with those tiny flowers from the project in bloom...I shouldn't complain. Two at the same time.

Except the soph is so small, I keep forgetting it is in bloom. :]
