Paphiopedilum sanderianum

Alrighty, I cannot take it any longer; I need a Paph. sanderianum ASAP. I've been hunting for weeks now - and all i'm turning up is hybrids with sanderianum as a parent.

I'm after the true species (though Chiu Hua Dancer is getting more and more appealing) ... does anybody here know of a reliable source?

Thanks in advance!

Forestview Gardens in Canada has them. They are very reliable and our society really likes Terry and Charlotte. But I don't know if they will ship in winter. You might be able to get them to hold one for you till spring. It is about 10th from the bottom of this list

Parkside isnt far from Jersey and they probably have them. May want to call to verify, as they have much more than what is posted on their website.

I would give Orchid Inn a go they have a lot of variety in their supply. Zephyr Orchids in Canada also is worth a look. In would have said Orchid Web too but Rowan beat me to it!

Orchid Inn, Ltd.

Lots of places have it actually. They are generally smaller businesses though.

Al's Orchids has it. Paphiopedilum :: Paph. spicerianum - Al's Orchid Greenhouse

Piping Rock has it as well.

Paphiopedilum spicerianum ('Flying Nun' x 'June') (paphiopedilum species) : Piping Rock Orchids

That was a two minute search through my bookmarks. Most likely be able to find more if you google it.

Orchid Inn always has well grown plants. You'll pay quite a bit if you want to see blooms right away. Some of the hybrids like Michael Koopowitz or Paul Parks are very nice looking and have the long petals like a sandy does, just not quite as long.

I got mine as a young plant from Marlow's Orchids (link). They also have a blooming-sized one available for $250. I've had good experience with the vendor, but with my budget I went with the young plant for a fraction of the cost.

Haha, I honestly do not know - I hunted up and down and just kept getting various hybrids with sanderianum. I couldn't find the species. I think the reason being - I tend to deal with a small group of sellers which generally have everything I'm after from cattleya to dracula - with the exception of this guy.

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions - i've got ahold of a couple of people you guys suggested and am currently comparing prices on this little jewel.

In the meantime I stumbled across Phrag. caudatum (another slipper with obnoxiously long petals) - absolutely loving it!

I'll be sure to update this thread once I get ahold of one!
Thanks again!
