This is my first time doing vase culture, did i set it up ok. :blushing:

Very nice set-up.... neat and clean
you may want to cut that dried up tip of the leaf so not to develop fungi (heat the scissors with a lighter or a torch or disinfect it) make a paste of cinnamon powder and water then dab the wounds |
Thanks, and I will lake care of the leaf :)

Aren't the roots very few in number? Is the phal recovering from something?
|
Violetta there are not that many roots because I over watered it and had to cut over half the roots then I did something else to the roots and had to cut all but the two roots. That is why my orchid is in the vase to help it grow new roots.
|
Very interesting! I didn't know you could grow an orchid like that! Do you empty the water after ... Say 15 minutes of daily dunking?

Not an expert as I only tried this once and it didn't work for me. My impression was that the water should be up to the base level but perhaps I'm wrong? Here's a link to a previous discussion. Hope this is helpful and keep us posted with the experiment! Good luck! http://www.orchidboard.com/community...involve-2.html Lilia :waving |

The set up is good. Don't let the roots grow down into the water. I would not take it out of the vase even to mist it. Just mist the undersides of the leaves as the stomata there will take in the water. You don't have to mist the roots. The more you mess with it by taking it out of the vase the more bruised becomes the velamen around the roots and possibly an entryway for fungus and bacteria.
