Onc. Sharry Baby - second verse, different from the first ;)
5 Attachment(s)
In October I posted pix of my Onc. Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance' with one spike blooming, one developing. The first spike is waning now, but the second spike is blooming.
I'm posting to show the color variation of the blooms on the two spikes. The first spike was developing in summer, and has the coloring you expect from this cultivar, the second spike was developing in fall, and due to cooler temps, the blooms have a dark colored lip. The previous two years, this has had spikes developing in fall, and they too had the mostly dark colored lips. The first photo is from October, the others are current. Thanks for looking :) |
Wow! that is quite a difference! They are both nice so I wouldn't mind having variations at different times!
|
Beautiful! Have you ever had more than two spikes?
|
Thanks silken, Josh :)
No, not gotten more than two spikes at a time, but I've only had it three years. Since I got it at Trader Joe's, it was probably blooming for the first time then. |
That's cool. It's almost like having two different orchids.

Beautiful plant and flowers, Sonya.

I'm still waiting for mine to bloom, I like the two colors at different times of the year
|
Temperature definitely has a big influence on flower color. I have noticed this a lot, not with Onc. Sharry Baby, but with a number of other plants.

Thanks everyone :)
It is pretty interesting (in a good way) having the two spikes with differently colored blooms at the same time :) |
