Oncidium Heaven Scent - odd spots

I just purchased two Onc. Heaven Scent 'Sweet Pea'; Oncidiums tend to develop black spots without it being an infection, so I was not concerned about the spots at the nursery. When I got home and placed them under my lights, I noticed that the black spots have small yellow rings around them. This may be normal, but I have never noticed this before. Being a little Viral Paranoid, I am concerned that these have Cimbidium ring spot, or a like virus. I have never had trouble with diseases from this supplier, so I am a little baffled. Any input on this? Maybe fungal? please.gif The leaves showing the most are the older leaves on the shoot. They are currently isolated until I hear something.

I had a bunch of oncidiums and the spots always drove me nuts. I got rid of them all and now just buy the minis. So far, no spots. No, I have no idea how to tell normal onc. spots from spots that indicate a problem. They all look the same to me. Hope you get a good answer soon!

That has been the overall approach I have had to Onc. all along, as these are only the third and forth that I have. One of mine, unfortunately a NoID, blooms religiously on every spike no matter where I have placed it. I just LOVE the smell of the Onc. Heavenly Scent that is at the IMA and got these two inexpensively. Hope they do not end up being costly!

I just have oncidium cheiroporum and an onc. Twinkle now. It is likely just a fungus but hopefully someone more knowledgeable will help.

I don't know how to tell regular Oncidium spotting from problematic kind, but would like to know as well.

I took one of mine that was heavily spotted in and the lady who keeps the greenhouse for the Botanical Gardens said she was at first concerned but after examining realized it was just natural. I dunno how though, lol...

BTW, a bump brings an old thread back making it active again. Members will see this thread again in their new posts which makes it more visible and thereby may get more active/posts.

I've just decided to love my Oncidiums spots and all. Some have lovely clear leaves but many get spots and it just seems to be their way. I wouldn't worry about it too much. You could give it a treatment of Physan every now and then and just use sanitary methods and if it loses vigor or the flowers have colour break, then toss it as possibly virused. Otherwise it may just be a spotty Oncidium like so many seem to be.

Again, Oncidiums are not my forte necessarily; I love them, but the spotting drives me nutty. Well, for now, I am just going to be careful with them and see what develops.
