Pescatorea wallisii in bloom
 

Hello everyone!
Here are a couple of pics of my Pescatorea wallisii in bloom. I just purchased it 1 month ago with blooms and buds; it never missed a beat and just keeps blooming out. There are several new buds to come!
I have some shots of Cattleya and Bulbophyllum to post soon, but have been online all day!!

meant to advise you to read up on cultural requirements as they are pretty finicky regarding temps ( Winter/Summer ), humidity and rest period. It may be worth your while to purchase a Baker culture sheet

Thanks for the heads up; I use the Internet Orchid Species Encyclopedia a lot and I noticed it really did not have a lot of info on this species, just a HUGE temp range, full shade, high humidity. It sounds a lot like some bromeliads that I used to have. I have had it for about one month now and it seems to have adapted well. No loss of blooms, buds or leaves, new growth and new root growth. I am not aware of whether these need a temp drop, but I have it in a recessed window that gets quite cool (my partner is after me to insulate it, but I want that cool spot!). It seems to be thriving, but I have been fooled before :crossfing. I have several Ecuadorian orchids and they all tend to be a little finicky, especially the sophronitis species. So far so good with these, so maybe I have stumbled onto a micro climate that they like. As my father would say - even a blind hog finds an acorn occasionally :coverlaugh:!

would you perhaps have Aspasia Silvana ? I ask because I get wonderful growth but no blooms. It was originally from Ecuagenera.

The real test for you would be to get your Pes to rebloom.
It seems more tolerant than mine, going by OrchidWiz. I had problems during Summer because my airconditioner couldn't handle the heat we had and the room I have them in got to 90f a few times. Fatal for my miltoniopsis.

Sorry to hear about your milts :_(. My AC conked out in the middle of the 100+ heatwave we had. Indy cooked! Luckily our apartment is shaded by trees on the south side and stayed rather cool, but it stressed a lot of my milts out too. I did not have the Pescatorea then, but I am a little confused about your concerns with temps. My understanding is that wallisii can stand temps in the range of 55 - 85 degree (F). There are several varieties that require consistent lower temps, 70 degree (F) and below, but walisii is not one of them. Hilltop grows them next to their Phalaenopsis and they were thriving. Rick told me that they required about the same conditions, and the window I have them in has been very good for my phalaenopsis. Keep your fingers crossed for me!:crossfing
No I do not have any Aspasia, and in fact, that is a new one on me. But if you would like to try a Pescatorea walisii perhaps we can work out something. I'll keep you updated on development.

P.S. This morning I took your advice and bred the Pesc. to itself. It was a little difficult to get done, but eventually I was able to get the pollinia guided onto the stigma. I am posting some close-ups of the column after the anther cap was removed and the pollinia were placed on the stigma. (Please let a pod form!:pray:)
