:hello
8 years ago i got a BC.maikai
It flowered for me 2 Years in a row , then --- nothing.
3 Years past, it turned into a big green Jungle- so i desided to re-pot.1/2 in bark, 1/2 in Coconut chunks.Just in case the medium made a different.
2 more Years of no Flowers,
So this Spring i had a Talk with it-- shape up or you will be shipped out, you are wasting precious Space. They did deside to listen. Both of them :)
I could not wait till they opened to show you Guys ( just in case it desides to bust the Buds) I have a lot of Patience, but ---6 Years ?--- anyway, lucky for me they did listen :) Any body else has that much trouble to get it to flower?

Maybe it was because the plant was getting less light than the two years that it bloomed. . . regardless, congrats on the buds!!!!

Thank you

Congrats! I have a B.C. Maikai 'Spotted Star' that is finally in spike for the first time in about 2 years. I got it from H & R two years ago as a good sized mature plant. At the time it had one sheath with a spike which blasted. Fair enough as it came bare root and all. But then it hasn't bloomed till now. I have about 3 or 4 small spikes with tiny buds. For all the growths there should be more but I'll take those ones :) I don't know if it helped but mine got a ton of sun this summer although it always has had good light even before that.

I'd be interested to know if these need something special to bloom well. I have seen these plants just loaded with blooms.

Thank you.
I dont know if they need anything special to flower more, i got mine under lights plus in an East facing Window getting Sun till 11:30 Am, there been there since i got them and the first 2 Years was fine, dont know what changed .But i am glad i did not give up.
Will post a Picture when they open. And i hope you will too?

For sure I will post mine but mine have a ways to go. Very tiny buds just recently emerged from sheaths. I'll look forward to seeing yours. I can see the spots on your buds already!

Woo hoo! :wtg:

I haven't gone 6 years without blooms on a plant (yet), but just recently found spikes on Cym. dayanum I've had for 4 years with no blooms. A couple others I've had about as, or nearly as long still haven't ever bloomed :p.

Looks like your patience will be well rewarded! Hope the next interval between blooms is much shorter ;)

I have some too that never bloomed yet, but i did not have them for that long 2 maybe 3 Years. And i also hope the next Flowers dont take an other 6 Years. Will have to see what happens, just happy i get some flowers this Time :)

You might want to consider the divide and mount method. My Maikai 'Mayumi' didn't bloom for several years until I made divisions and mounted them. It took a few years for the divisions to acclimate but now they bloom every November. They are growing in a high light area in my garden.
