Winter is here but my Cymbidium doesn't care!

It's just a NOID Cymbidium, but I really like it. Last year around Feb. it had 1 spike that lasted in pristine condition for months. This year I put it in the same sunny location outside all summer but by July it was already growing these bloom spikes. Sort of weird! So the flowers are just beginning to open now. I have another Cym that sat beside this one all summer that is doing more what I would expect them to do which is just now growing the bloom spikes. It will likely bloom in late winter. Oh well, I have very few blooms at the moment so am glad to see this one.

On Friday morning we woke up to 4 inches of snow so I threw in some pics of that. Kind of a contrast to see my blooms to a background of snow :) My Thanksgiving cactus is in bloom right on time as usual!

It is going above freezing today so much of this snow could melt.

never heard of a Cym that sets spike in summer how interesting!

I love your growing area, so bright and clean!!!
I would totally fill that space up with tons of nobiles and cymbidiums, and maybe some coelogyne along with many more plants like your beautiful zygo cactus and amaryllis!

Thanks for looking everyone. I found it very unusual that this Cym started its spikes in July as well. I wonder if it got a chill in the spring when I put it out which made it think it was fall. However the other one didn't start spikes at that time.

Thanks NYCorchidman. Our space will still be under construction this winter, but it has come a long way since this time last year!

I have 5 nobile dendrobiums further down on the window ledge and several already have tiny flower buds which is earlier than usual for them too!

I also have about 150 orchids along the other side of the room on shelves and ledges. I think I showed some of them in my post of our growing space recently. I have a real mix of Catts, Phals, Milts, Masdies, Dens, Oncidiums , a few Paphs and Phrags. My hubby wants this for an area we can sit out in and enjoy mid winter so I can't make it too crowded. And he has to be able to mow the lawn without a bunch of obstacles in his way :)

Nice grow area! I think it would be great to sit inside and enjoy winter and orchid blooms at the same time. That cymbidium is gorgeous. And I love snowy scenes. I would sit in there for hours :)

Thanks! All the buds are open now and it is looking great. We have pretty long winters so we are looking forward to spending time out there.
