BOC Haul
1 Attachment(s)
About time I posted some pictures from the British Orchid Congress, and I thought you'd like to see what I got.
First though a picture of a blanket over a bench... |

It was very cold in my hotel room... Here's what was under the bench (somewhat warmer than the rest of the room!)

And, OK, here's the BOC haul when I got it home.
Now I think I'll go post a picture of my willi in the slipper forum... (Well I have to give you chance to guess what I've got haven't I?) |
Very nice!

I was going to post individual pictures, but it turns out I'll have to leave that till later, as I have a little emergency on my hands. So the list of what I got from top left in the pic....
Phal Autumn's Tale Paph spicerianum Catasetum integerrimum Paph callosum Paph wilhelminiae Flasks: Paph Schöne Von Kaunitz Angraecum elephantium Pabstia jugosa Doritanopsis Kenneth Schubert x Phal hieroglyphica And the emergency is I've just noticed a big mold colony growing in my Pabstias! It would be them: I'd decided I'd leave them a while as I can't see pseudobulbs and I thought it would be best to decant when they had them, but I guess they have to come out fast now! The bag must have got a nick in it at some point :( My first flasks and the ones that look most delicate (and were highest on my wish list) have to come out first! Off to post in the propogation forum! |
Yikes! Good luck!

It was a really excellent Congress. The quality of plants was very high, and the venue was ideal. You do not mention the lecture programme which included experts like Jerry Fischer. There was also a Conservation symposium running on Saturday but I did not get to that.

Richard there's another thread for the congress where you might like to post: I've put some pictures up. I've also mentioned the talks elsewhere. I only went to one of the main talks: Henry Oakley's on medicinal uses of orchids, which was excellent. I went to a few of the science symposium ones which were interesting too.
I started this thread as a separate one for the plants I got. Guess I should update... too late for pics now. But so far they are all well! The flasks have all now been deflasked, and so far are doing great. I have leaf and root growth amoung the seedlings! 'Autumn's Tale' turned out not to be a registered grex name, which is anoying, but it's still a great plant. I think it might be Ascps. Irene Dobkin or a hybrid of it, but unless I find it being sold under 'Autumn's Tale' with more details it will remain a noid I guess. |
Thanks Rowan I had missed that thread. I notice many of the comments are same as the UK Orckid Forum which I visit more regularly.
