Possible second spike?

Hi all, I have a Phal that definitely has a spike growing but there's a second growth near the bottom that I have no idea what it is. It looks like it could be a spike but it hasn't grown at all while the other one is noticeably bigger.

I'm attaching a picture with a red circle on the one I can't identify. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

New root :)

Ok, I just thought the shape of it was weird, it's not smooth like a normal root

I've read elsewhere that roots grow downward and spikes grow upward. :)

It's kinda going sideways that's why I was confused. Thanks though!

New spikes should come from a leaf axis higher on the plant than previous spike. I can see whar you mean about that root looking different from the other... may have stopped growing at some point.

Looks to me a bit like the root got a bit caught near the leaf as it came out, might be why it looks a bit strange.

I've had roots grow, up, sideways and down, angle doesn't really make a difference, but bright tip, with silver behind it is almost certainly a root.
