Dendrobium Keiki issue
3 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I have a dendrobium given to me by a friend who was about to throw it away. It was completely leafless when she gave it to me but the canes were still green, unfortunately there was root rot that I think was too advanced, and at the last minute it threw out (what I believe is) a keiki. However, the canes are rotting from the bottom up and I don't know what to do. Could someone please look at the pictures and tell me if this is a keiki? It looks like one to me but it's not showing any roots. I'm also attaching a picture of the bottom of the plant, the cane that the keiki is on is the one on the right that looks like it's brown. Should I cut it and put it on some sphag? |
Yes, that's a keiki ; roots will start in time.
The browning cane - is it soft? |
Yes it's soft and hollow on the bottom and it's creeping up...

I'd cut the mother cane off as high above the brown and soft area as you can -- to within an inch or so of the keiki. You can then try to sphag & bag that segment; I've had a lot of good luck with dendrodiums doing that.
Good luck! |
Wow. Nature is wonderful!

That's what I thought, thank you, I'll let you know how it goes :)
