Laenopsis 'Penang Star'
At last nights OS meeting, I won this orchid. Can't find much info out about how to care for it. Anyone have it?
Parents are: paraphal laycockii x Christenonia vietnamiea |
At one time Paraphalaenopsis had been classified as a sub-species of Phalaenopsis, but they are now considered a separate genus. Closely related to Phalaenopsis and other Vandaceous orchids and cross hybridizing can be done, to some extent.
Paraphalaenopsis are native to Borneo and require warm temperatures, good air circulation and high humidity. They should not be exposed to cold nor do well in extreme heat. They are epiphytes with terete (pencil shaped) leaves and the flowers are fragrant with cinnamon scent or that of ripe bananas. I have a Christensonia vietnamica that I give hot to warm growing culture; bright to full sunlight watered frequently in a well-drained media, fertilizer weekly weakly. I am excited to see future blooms of your plant. This must be a miniature compact plant just by the parents size and form. |
