A new life, a New Garden, a New Hobby
Hi
My name is Steve and I moved to Southen Spain about 10 years ago with my partner Heather. We moved because i was made redundant and heather had done 30 years in the same Job [too much] We now reside in a restored farmhouse {cortijo], with dogs, cats and chickens, Heather runs a Garden Club for the local villagers and I teach Spanish cooking after working and learning in several spanish bars and cafes. I had always liked Orchids and we had bought them as presents for people and prizes for the raffle at the garden club, but never actually owned one, this has changed, i now have a collection of about 25 orchids and am currently experimenting with semi-hydroponics which seems to be ok at the moment, all the plants are currently outside in a enclosed area out side the kitchin door, awaiting our lower autum temps Steve:lol: |

Welcome, Steve and Heather!
Wow~ you have a dream place! I would love to have outdoor space where animals are running around and plants are growing. Maybe one day. At the moment, I'm stuck in busy city with indoor garden, but I'm happy :) Welcome to OB! |
Hi there, my collection currently composes of 16 different Phalenopsis, 4 Dendronobium Nobile [white and yellow flowers 3 Oncidium Alliance orchids in small clay pots and 2 Cambrai orchids.
I must admit i have not bought all these as when visiting a local garden centre on a regular basis, i have been given a number of free Phals and denronobiums which have flowered and become un sellable with no flowers, they get reduced in price and if they dont go she gives them away, you just have to be there on the right day. I have put on of the Phals and and a Dendronobium into semi-hydroponics and they seem to be ok. The Phal has actually produced a baby plant since being transplanted. I would love to up load some pics but dont know how to at the moment regards Steve |
