Latest Haul!
So last week (or was it two, I can't remember. . .) I received my last haul of the year from Patrick of Kingfisher Orchids. Seeing how I had been saving since mid-July, it was one heck of a haul! Normally I show all the plants, but this time I decided not to.
First off is a group picture. Back row, left to right is Karen Annie (mariae x hieroglyphica), Yungho Gelb Canary, fasciata 'Shaffers', and amboinensis 'Oriental'. Middle row, L-R is Rarashati Princess 'Soan Bronze Goddess' (more on the story of Soan later), Rarashati Princess 'Soan Rustic', Kingfisher's Princess 'Soan Next Queen', and (Penang Girl 'Ching Reuy' x John Ewing 'KFO'). Front row, L-R is (maculata x Marie's Delight 'Patrick'), amboinensis var. common, David Lim, Kung's Penang Girl, and equestris 'Blue' x self. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030714.jpg The fasciata 'Shaffers' is incredibly huge, with three crowns and four kiekis, all of which have their own spikes! http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030733.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030738.jpg After loosing both of my previous amboinensis, I'm glad that 'Oriental' is a large plant with multiple spikes! And I was pretty surprised by the size of the flower! http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030739.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030740.jpg Here is the Rarashati Princess 'Soan Bronze Goddess' bred by Patrick (Kung's Princess 'Lena' x Kuntrarti Rarashati 'Copperstate'), selected for its deeper red colour compared to the rest of the batch. I was hoping to get a lot more done with my friends DSLR, but things had to be cut short, and this was the only one I could get pictures of. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030729.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...eGoddess-1.jpg |
The Rarashati Princess 'Soan Rustic', which although has less red, has better form and is much more floriferous (go figure :hello). I actually also found a third spike on it! The close-up of the flower is pretty accurate colour-wise.
http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030727.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030728.jpg Kingfisher's Princess 'Soan Next Queen' (cultivar name brought to you by Mira-Claude) has a very interesting colour, so it was hard to give it a cultivar name that I liked. Thankfully Mira suggested the above, and I instantly liked it! The colours are whited out due to the lights from the one plant stand, and I also found a second spike growing. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030724.jpg I thought I would show the Karen Annie, as it is a huge plant with a few spikes scrambling all over the place! http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030731.jpg Found a spike on my amboinensis var. common. And more recently, I noticed a second growing! http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030718.jpg Finally, I found a spike on my Meir's Penang Princess, which I noticed poking out on Thursday, and then the morning after I took the picture, I noticed a second spike was also growing!!! http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...t/P1030743.jpg |

After the looking at those amazing pictures, I just had to contact Kingfisher to get myself that phal. fasciata! And mine arrived with 4 basal keikis too, how the hell do they grow that plant? :bowing
So yeah, I blame you for my getting 3 more orchids! (because you just can't order one alone!) |
