Oncidium Sweet Sugar in bloom.

This is a recent find at Trader Joe's.
Sometimes you really find a great healthy orchid among beat up and tired looking plants there. and it is sooo easy on the wallet, too!

This one has exactly 100 flowers with 6 branched spikes. some of those branched spikes are also branched. The flower presentation is just amazing!

I got Sweet Sugar 'Million Dollar" last year and it had 100 flowers on a huge spike. It's been growing and flowering very nicely for me, but never at the same glory.

million dollar is in flower, and I do see some difference.
The shape of the lip on this newer one is really so much like skirt, while million dollar has very full round lip.
The color is more vivid on the million dollar although you can't really tell from pictures. You'd have to put then both side by side and it's quite obvious.
I love them both though.

The second picture is million dollar when first bought.
It was one big yellow spike.

Oh lovely! I got one last year -actually it was this year, on sale in January. I have now managed to get it to rebloom for me and it has three spikes just beginning! I hope they all make it.

Those are beautiful. Good growing.

Thank you, all!

These are common orchids, but I don't see sweet sugar with 100 blooms that often.
Little golden trees! :)

I'm yet to find out about the growth and flowering habit of this new one, but the one I got last year grows very nicely and bloom every 5/6 months.
The summer bloom is fading now with a few flowers still hanging on and two new growths are starting at the same time. A good example of hybrid vigor, I'd say.
