Best way to remove infected phal leaf
 

I have a phalaenopsis that clearly has some sort of fungal infection and I know the leaf needs to be removed. But I've never had to deal with anything like this and wanted to know the best way to remove a leaf and prevent more disease.

It has been separated from the other plants. My camera wouldn't take clear photos but one is the underside of the leaf, where there is a black circle and then yellowing spreading from it. The other photo is the top of the leaf and you can see that the infection is coming through to the other side.

I appreciate any help.

From what I have read here the best way is to cut it off past the bad area with a pair of disinfected clippers, or use a new razor blade, or x-acto knife blade. I am new here, so am sure someone with more experience will come along with better advice.:goodluck:

It's even on half the leaf seemingly. You should do it fast!

Now cut a good inch if possible below the nearest infected zone with disinfected tools, then add cinnamon to the cut and watch.

Think to isolate the plant too, clean your hands thoroughly after manipulating it, and especially after handling the infected part.

The infected part should go to the bin on the spot.

Thanks for the advice. I just cut it with a new disinfected razor blade and then put some cinnamon on the cut.

The rest of the plant looks great so hopefully this will be the end of the infection. It has been separated from the rest of the plants since I first noticed something wasn't right and I will keep it away for a while longer.

It looks like bacterial soft rot rather than fungal to me.

I had something like that and I did just as advised above and luckily never saw it again. Good Luck :crossfing
