Best source for Hydroton/LECA
Hello everyone!
I've recently switched a few plants over to S/H and i'm amazed at the root growth and vigor that i'm seeing from the plants! On everything from phalaenopsis to psychopsis. I decided I want to repot my whole collection into S/H (minus bulbophyllums and a few other miscellaneous orchids) - but now my question is: Where can I get a large amount of the hydroton/LECA at a reasonable price? I have about 50 plants in 6" pots - that need to be repotted. So I'm looking at 80-100 lbs of the stuff. Anyone know of any sources selling in bulk amounts? Thanks in advance! |
Hydroponics shops.
Around here in California there are hydroponics stores all over and they carry large bags of Hydroton.

Unfortunately there aren't any over here in my Southern Jersey area that I know of. Thus forcing me to shop around for it online.

I don't know where in Southern Jersey you live, but have you tried East Coast Horticultural Supply in Sewell?
Hydroponics New Jersey | Grow Lights | Hydroponic Systems | Sewell NJ 08080 Or look at Ray's schedule at Orchid Growing Supplies Semi-hydroponics Hydroponics Orchid Books PrimeAgra and ask him to bring a bale to the next nearby event. Looks like he'll be at Pinelands in October. Cheers. Jim |
I got my hydroton off amazon.com with free shipping. I don't know if they still have the deal or not. I bought three bags of it and only ended up using one. Of course it never goes stale so I am set for my next forty orchids...

If you are interested in PrimeAgra, I'm just across the river from Lambertville in PA.
Your might also consider Creative Hydroponics in East Amwell. Tell Jeree I sent you. |
