Cynoches Wine Delight

This came in bloom so I can't credit for getting it to bloom, but I absolutely LOVE the name (lol...) and the coloration. The fragrance every morning until late afternoon I could do without though... Reminds me a bit of cherry cough syrup. Not a "Delight" at all, lol...

Hi Paul, I just got one of those too.Mine came in bud and should be fully open in the next day or two. I was really hoping that it was going to be a good fragrance. But no? It only had one spike and two blooms. My nose doesnt work too well tho so maybe it wont be too bad..lol How are you growing yours? I have mine in an east facing window....Jean

Lovely!

LOL... Honestly, there are times when I think the fragrance is great albeit odd, but other times it's a bit of a put off. However, I do have a very sensitive nose to smells, even those most people don't pick up on. So you may just like it.

I understand these are similar in culture to Catasetums, so bright light is great for them. Currently, I've got it with my paph's inside though so I can enjoy the blooms for a while. Then I'll grow it outside and slowly introduce it to more light.

Gorgeous! I was avoiding whole genera because of the rest period, but looking at all the beautiful pics - maybe I should try one?

Paul Mc 09-03-2012 09:27 AM

Oh my, it's the rest period that sold me, lol... One less orchid to really care for over the winter! LOL... Fred Clarke said just put it I too of your refrigerator or someplace and just forget about it until you see several inches of root growth and new fans growing a bit before watering. We'll see if I can do it or not, lol...

I was thinking of buying a small frige just to put some of the cooler winter orchids in for the winter. wonder if that would work for clowisa, cataseums and nobile dens also also....maybe not the Dens as I guess they also need the light...Jean

I think he meant to say "on top" of the fridge, not inside!! I don't think there is any member of the Catasetinae that would survive that!! lol

Oh wow! Typing on my phone so sorry for the misunderstanding! Yes, on top, not in!!!!
