CFL distance from orchids
 

I'm using 2 compact fluorescent lights, 1 is a 150 watts and the other is 100 watts. Under them I have some catts, a brassavola and a den. What distance should I keep the lights from the plants?

Right now they are about 4 - 6 inches away.

Isn't it too close? I'm assuming, you are using those giant CFL bulbs (e.g. from hydrofarm). For (actual) 23W CFL, 4-6" away can give you 700fc, or so.

I would put it as close to it without burning the plant. If the leaves are warm to the touch then it's too close. I have a 125w CFL grow light and I need to get longer chains to put it closer to my plants. Right now I grow my lower light orchids under it.
