First ever paph!

I've been searching for one of these for a couple of months... I've seen them at TJ's before and contemplated buying one, but I was a little nervous about them. Of course, once I really wanted one, I couldn't find one, and then lo and behold, went there the other day and this guy was sitting on the ground all by his lonesome! :waving It actually came with a name tag (unlike the others that have a generic tag), and it said Paph. supersuk eureka AM/AOS x Raisin pie hsinying. It looks like a young plant, but looks healthy overall. I understand that these grow in more of a boggy environment and should always be moist but not soggy, right? I pulled it out of the pot and the roots looked okay - they were brownish but firm. It's packed in moss with a few packing peanuts in there also.

Good find. Paphs grow on you. I expect it won't be long before you buy more :)

P.S.

I need to take some better pictures of it... the pics above were taken with my phone and are a a little blurry. As soon as I take some more detailed pictures of the leaves and roots, I'd like to know what you all think - hopefully it's healthy! I don't think you can tell from the pictures but it's growing a new leaf.

Its a happy healthy plant and you said it is giving you a new growth....the flower is beautiful in color and form....even if it is a bit blurry; you managed to showcase it to its advantage

Yes, they are very intriguing and majestic! I told myself that this would be my last purchase for awhile (I'm running out of room), but it's so hard to say no when you find a beauty like this!

Thank you for the compliment, however, I can't take credit for the new growth... I bought it like that on Sunday (2 days ago), so the new leaf is none of my doing! But hopefully I can keep it going strong.

A Vinicolor Maudiae type. A good one, to. The flower should open a bit more over the next couple of days. Keep in Phalaenopsis light, use the same fertilizer (if you fertilize), and water 1-2 times a week, before drying out completely. This growth will only bloom this one time, but it will put out a side growth that will turn into something that looks like another plant in a year or less time. Kind of like daylillies, only they shouldn't be divided as much. But yeah, good find. And flower #2 is always better.

That flower looks like it has a good shape and not defective. Nice full form and good color too. The brown roots are natural. That's the color there're supposed to be.

Very nice. I love the colors.
