Vanda tessellata
3 Attachment(s)
This one blooms over (and throughout) the summer and the flowers are highly fragrant and long lasting. Even though this is probably just a "jungle form" of the species, it is a robust grower and bloomer, producing roots along the entire length of the stem. It flowered a couple of months ago with two spikes, and there's currently another one that's just starting to form a bit higher up the stem than the current spike. It loves the summer heat and humidity. But in my experience this species is very adaptable and easily takes cool winter temperatures down to the high 40s to mid 50s at night (although I try to keep it closer to the 60 F mark).

Wonderful blooms. To me, these 'jungle' forms have a lot more character than many of the man made hybrids.

Very nice Steve, my supposed 'blue' tessellata should flower this year, its big enough by far.
I say supposed as the nursery it came from has a problem with correct labels from what a friend & I have flowered in recent times !! |
Well done Steve !
