Laelia purpurata flamea x L. purpurata striata Doraci in bloom
7 Attachment(s)
A purchase from several years ago, this is a set of back bulbs that I separated 4 years ago and is finally blooming for me this week. Purchased at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate in 2008, I grow this one outdoors in coastal Southern California. I found that the clue to getting this varietal to bloom is almost full sun all day. When I had it in light shade, or only morning sun, it refused to bloom.

Nice!! It seems like a lot people are pleasantly surprised when they give their orchids 'more sun' than they thought they should.

Gorgeous!

That's gorgeous! Yes, I'm always worried I'm giving the purpuratas too much sun, but they seem to really love it.

Well done! It is a beauty.

Looks wonderful!

Way to go dude. When you have bbulbs you can set them in full sun and when they sprout buds they are used to full sun. Nice flowers.
|
Wow. Well done.
