Death by Miltoniopsis
Me, not the plant. I was so pleased with my recent purchase even though it is a Safeway Noid....aaggh! It got happy after a couple of days and has started emitting such a strong fragrance its nearly driving me out of the house. I had company yesterday and her nose turned bright red. lI haven't seen any listed as highly scented? I'm waiting for the day to warm up so I can put it outside. :(

I got one of those ....luckily for me I love it :)

Ooooooh!!!! Wish I could smell it. Any pics?

I had a Zygo I could barely stand to be in the same room with early in the day - lovely fragrance, but VERY strong!
I don't know what your temps are like now ? These are cooler growers, tho if there's a big difference between indoors and outdoors, I'd wait before putting it outside. |
Should smell like tea roses. I like the heady fragrance, but you might need to open a few windows! :)

Thanks for the responses, I needed some sympathy.
I like it too but my eyes were swelling shut and I couldn't breathe. I put it in front of an open window which helped and I'm HOPING there isn't enough of a draft to wilt the flowers...I think the temp difference outside is too great too. Sorry I don't have a camera right now but I can see where I will really need one if i continue to post here, I have a couple of others I'd like to show off too. Here is a link to the vendor, I don't know if it will work, its Matsui Nursery in Salinas, CA. If it doesn't work right click on products..orchids...then the white Miltoniopsis....mine is similar to the rose one pictured on the far left but am not sure if its exactly the same plant..I have a bigger mask and some 'water droplets' ? I grow my milt outside year round. they are tougher than you think. Winter temp 70s day and can drop down to upper 40s night. Currently 80s day and down to lower 60s nights. On warmer days, it is in complete shade in a shaded patio.

I too have grown one outdoors year round here in SF bay area, sheltered, and near the house, only putting it in the garage on the coldest nights (forecast to be 34 or lower, to avoid possibility of freezing) Probably NOT ideal, and I won't recommend it, but plant did fine, bloomed the next summer :)
Tho if the temp difference between indoors and outdoors is a lot, it might drop the blooms if you put it outside now. I can relate to overpowering orchid fragrance, even a nice fragrance. My Onc Sharry Baby - outside even, would give me a headache if I was in a few feet of it for more than a couple of minutes. |
