WoO! My rescued NoID mini Phal is growing!

:hello
I just wanted to post about my little mini Phal that I rescued from Lowes a few months ago. I stopped by there to see what they had in stock, and noticed this poor little guy barely clinging to life. He just looked so sad and alone... :_( Well, a nice lady that worked there seen me checking him out, and offered to mark him down to only $2. So I had to get him. I took home my little orphan and let him soak. The moss he was in was bone dry, tho I guess that's much better than soggy and wet. He had a flower spike with only one bloom left on it, but I went ahead and cut it off to conserve what little energy he had left and focus it into growing. His roots were all basically dead, except for one that was barely an inch long. I repotted him into a 2.75" Oxygen Core Dual Pot that I received free with a previous order from rePotme. I used a fresh mix of both sphagnum and fir bark w/ charcoal and perlite, and kept him well watered. Even tho his leaves are still a bit dehydrated. After a couple months of sulking, I noticed today while I was watering my 'chids that a new leaf had started growing. I haven't noticed any new roots yet, but the one that he does have is still hanging in there. It's great to see that my efforts to save him are finally paying off, and that he's on the load road to recovery. I can't wait until he's fully healthy and blooming happily. But until then I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed. :crossfing This one holds a special place in my heart because he's the first mini Phal that I've ever owned. I have since bought another one, that's doing real good and still in bloom. I'm already addicted to orchids, but now I see many more mini's in the near future. They're just soo darn cute, HeHe! :) |

Wow I want to shop at your Lowes. No one ever marks down plants at our local Home Depot, OSH or Lowes. They 'abuse' orchids all the time there. After two, three weeks time from getting fresh supply of orchids the poor plants look very sickly. But they still try to sell them at full price.
Great save on your orchid. It looks very healthy. |

This was an enjoyable read! Very much the same that I had here with mine that I got for $1.50! We just got our new leaf a month ago. Keep that little one going!

Wow, just look at that new crisp leaf popping up there! You know you are doing something right for that to happen. It will be special when this one blooms since you have saved it.
